Come on, let’s plan your trip around Sri Lanka.........
Why Noble Path
Local knowledge
Every route is built by people who have actually driven it. We know which road is beautiful and which one is just long.
Built around you
Tell us how many days you have and what you care about. We arrange the island around that, not the other way round.
Nothing hidden
Indicative prices, honest drive times, and a clear note when a place is out of season. No surprises once you land.

Cultural Triangle
Two thousand years of capitals, rock and ritual
The dry-zone plain between Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Kandy holds the remains of the Sinhalese kingdoms: vast reservoir-fed cities, monastic complexes, painted caves and the rock citadel of Sigiriya. Five of Sri Lanka's eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites are here.

Hill Country
Tea, mist, and the world's most photographed train
Climb out of the plains and the temperature drops ten degrees. The hill country is terraced tea estates, waterfalls, colonial hill stations and the blue train that grinds between Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella.

South Coast
Fort walls, whale water and long warm beaches
From Hikkaduwa round to Tangalle the coast is a run of bays, reefs, surf points and fishing towns, anchored by the Dutch-built ramparts of Galle Fort. Whale watching leaves from Mirissa, beginner surf from Weligama, and the Southern Expressway puts the whole stretch within two hours of Colombo.

Wilderness & National Parks
Leopards, elephants and very early mornings
Sri Lanka has the highest leopard density in the world in Yala's Block 1, near-guaranteed wild elephant sightings at Udawalawe, and the empty, water-laced scrub of Wilpattu. Parks are entered by jeep at dawn or mid-afternoon, and the best months differ from park to park.

East Coast
The other season: flat sand, warm sea, long right-handers
When the south-west is being hammered by rain, the east is at its best. Arugam Bay is one of Asia's great surf points from May to September; Trincomalee and Nilaveli offer some of the calmest, clearest water in the country and the coral of Pigeon Island.

What to do
Experiences worth the detour
Climbs at first light, a train through the tea, a whale off the southern shelf. The parts of the trip people actually talk about afterwards.
- Food
Colombo street food walk
An evening on foot through Pettah and Galle Face eating kottu, hoppers, isso wade and short eats, with a guide who can explain what you are eating and order the things you would never find alone.
Good value
- Nature
Negombo lagoon and Dutch canal by boat
A small-boat morning through the mangroves of Negombo lagoon and along the seventeenth-century Dutch canal, watching the fishing fleet work and the kingfishers and egrets that live off it.
Good value
- Wellness
Ayurveda treatment day
A consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor followed by a prescribed sequence of oil treatments (abhyanga, shirodhara and a herbal steam) at an established west-coast retreat.
Mid-range
- Adventure
Self-drive tuk-tuk road trip
Pick up a tuk-tuk, get a local driving permit, and take the back roads yourself. Rentals start from Negombo or Colombo and run for anything from three days to a month.
Mid-range
- Culture
Sigiriya rock at opening time
Be at the gate when it opens at 7am and climb the 1,200 steps to Kassapa's fifth-century summit palace before the heat and the crowds, with a guide to read the frescoes and the water gardens.
Mid-range
- Adventure
Pidurangala rock at sunrise
A rougher, cheaper 45-minute climb on the rock opposite Sigiriya, finishing with a boulder scramble onto a flat summit that looks straight across at the fortress as the sun comes up.
